Cairns Aquarium, the first public aquarium built in Australia in 18 years, is home to more than 16,000 specimens and 10 ecosystems. The $54 million, 7,800sq m, three-level facility in Queensland holds 71 tanks including Australia's largest freshwater tank with 400,000 litres of water, a deep sea tank and the world's first true tidal motion tank.A visit to Cairns Aquarium represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Cairns day trip website to plot your vacation.
It has 10 lifelike and recreated habitats and is the only aquarium of its type to display endangered or rarely seen endemic species such as the emerald tree monitors, Jardine River painted turtles, ribboned pipefish and scalloped hammerhead sharks.
The aquarium is also an interactive research and education centre and is home to the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.

Beautiful aquarium, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth visiting for a close up experience with the fresh and saltwater life. I really enjoyed the layout of the aquarium that started inland through the fresh water rivers and made its way out to the deep ocean. The aquarium encouraged everyone to take the time to connect with the aquatic life and think about the conservation of our waterways and oceans. Even in the touch pools the aquatic life is rotated to ensure that the creatures do not get over stressed from too much interaction. Highly recommended stop in Cairns, well priced and enjoyable for any age.

A truly magical experience in Cairns. Myself and my family were blown away by the amazing displays here. The cleanliness of the aquarium and the clarity of the displays is what sets this one apart from others. When we purchased tickets we were told that they do things differently from other aquariums located down south, and they weren't wrong! Such a variety of animals and educational information available including plenty of fun and interactive experiences for kids.

Highly recommended. We enjoyed the guided tour with dinner. Aquarium is well thought out exploring the many echo systems of tropical Queensland and beyond. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. Guided tour last two hours which felt short. The best is the large tank with over head viewing arched tunnel. Really liked the jellyfish and seahorses.

We enjoyed our visit to this aquarium. We spent just under 3 hours there including a talk. It was good value. There was lots to see. The exhibits are all clean. The staff are friendly. We would recommend a visit. Each aquarium around the world has its own unique feature. This aquarium has a huge salt water tank that is breathtaking!

30/12/21 Wonderful aquarium in Cairns right near Esplanade. Very impressive display of beautiful reef species and coral life. Also displays native Australian reptilian, turtle and frog species. Best not to visit during school holidays if you want to avoid lots of screaming children running around amongst crowds of people. Excellent management and pride taken in upkeep of facility. Book online for better price otherwise it's $44 per person at entry and $36 concession. Recommend a visit. 🐠🐡☺️
