This wildlife sanctuary in New South Wales offers a rare combination of free-roaming Aussie animals and ancient Aboriginal rock art. When you enter Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary, expect to be greeted by kangaroos. Wallabies and emus hop along the path to the visitor center. Along the 3 km (1.85 mi) of walking tracks, you'll see animals such as wallabies, wombat, flying foxes, and crocodiles. Meet Zoe, the park’s most-photographed kangaroo, with her sparkling studded collar. You can also get a photo with a koala or python. The rangers tell stories about the animals and their survival in the bush. At Aboriginal Heritage and Bush Tucker/Medicine tours, see the Hawkesbury engravings, one of 4,000 engravings, stencils, and paintings in the area. Learn how to throw a boomerang and pick out the shape of animals lurking in the trees. • Our second visit here after many years. Things have not really changed but the animals here are still interesting to look at. Most are not enclosed except the rarer animals like the Tassie devil's...

  • Awesome place for families to enjoy animal encounters. We went on a Sunday afternoon, not too many visitors, no wait to buy entry tickets. Rangers shared a lot of info and fun facts about animals, everyone there was super friendly. Learn more on their website about open hours, entry ticket packages and presentation times. There's petting zoo for younger kids. Please come support this wonderful sanctuary! They take NSW Discover vouchers. Gift shop has nice merchandise.
  • Fantastic opportunity for speed dating with animals and hiring a ranger for an hour. Kathy was amazing, she is very knowledgeable and passionate about animals and we managed to pat and learn about 7 animals within an hour. Will definitely come again and bring our guests.
  • Great day trip from Sydney if you know what to expect. They are much smaller than Taronga of course, but we wanted to avoid the massive crowds and give my parents visiting from overseas a nice up-close look at some local creatures. Did not disappoint! All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The short bushwalks to the indigenous carvings were also a nice diversion. If you’re not looking for elephants and giraffes, this would be a great place to bring young kids as well, as you’re almost guaranteed to be able to pat the free-ranging kangaroos.
  • I've been to a fair few zoos and wildlife parks around Sydney and this one was amazing! There were many animals to see and admire, some free-roaming around the place! I got to pat an Emu and some Kangaroos, and let me tell you, it was awesome! The enclosed animals were fascinating to see, ranging from farm animals and birds, to exotic meerkats and snakes. I think there's an animal for everyone to enjoy here! There were also a few walking trails you can take and although it was hot, I walked with a few friends and it was lovely! It led to a nice natural lookout and some Aboriginal sites that were very nice to see. The animals were so cute, the staff were kind and helping, and the whole experience was very well worth my time and money. I'll definitely be coming back when the weather's cooler!
  • Charming Aussie sanctuary for animals. The beautiful wildlife are obviously loved and very relaxed. Workers are knowledgeable, friendly and well presented.
