Mount Ngun Ngun (said as Ngun Ngun) is the sixth tallest of the Glass House Mountains at 253 m. It has a well maintained walking trail to the summit that affords good views. The trail from carpark (with tap) is not as steep as the higher mountains and is open to beginners. The south face contains steeper, unmarked but well known rock climbing routes. When viewed from Moreton Bay it lines up with and is silhouetted by Mount Beerwah and Mt Coonowrin/Crookneck. This was noted by Captain Cook on his first voyage of along the East coast of Australia. It is known as the dingo to the family of the rest of the Glasshouse Mountains.

Ngun Ngun is arguably the best place to view the taller mountains that QNPRSR has restricted access to.

  • Easy hike. Well maintained. At the top the 360 views of the glasshouse mountains and surrounding areas is spectacular. Bit of rocky scramble at the top. Good idea to wear trail shoes for grip. No public toilets at starting point/car park but 1 about 5min/3km away 11 Bruce Parade, Glass House Mountains QLD 4518
  • Relatively easy uphill walk to the summit with some stunning views of the Glass House Mountains at the top, and well worth the walk. It takes about 45 minutes up at a leisurely pace and 30 minutes to descend towards the car park. Lots of shade, although limited at the top of course. A very mild scramble at the top, and an open cave to view along the way. There were lots of butterflies at the summit when we visited (Jan), and the walk was relatively busy during peak morning. Parking available near the start point at the base of the walk, although gets full quite quickly.
  • Stunning summit especially for sunrise or sunset. We hiked this summit for sunset and it was spectacular. Grade 4 walking track but it is actually pretty easy and short. If you are fit, you can manage to get to the top within 30 mins. Took us around 35-40 mins with breaks in between for photos during the hike. Try not to hike up mt Ngungun after sunset especially during winter time as it get dark pretty quickly and it can be dangerous. A headlight would be helpful to go down from the summit after sunset. Overall, definitely a must if you are in the hinterland region, sunshine coast!
  • Brilliant views! Took 20-ish mins to get to the top, at a leisurely pace. The hike is relatively easy, even for those with little-to-no fitness (like me😂) Even the littlest kids can do the hike…it’s not uncommon to see families with little ones doing the hike together. Not sure what it’s like in winter, but in summer there are flies and horseflies everywhere at the summit; it can get real annoying. Take bugs spray, wear sunnies (keeps them out of your eyes) or wear some sort of bug netting. Don’t forget water, but there’s a water tap at the start of the hike as well.
  • Wonderful place for a walking and climbing, a little bit challenge at some parts of the track, but It totally worths it when you get on the top and see the view from there. It is kids friendly. People normally spends 10 to 20 minutes on the top of the submit. It is normally very busy, so sometimes need to wait for a car parking spot. Just be aware of that no pets are allowed. The only problem I found out there is no toilet around, so make sure you have cleaned yourself before starting this 40 to 50 minutes track!
