Mount Wellington defines the landscape surrounding Hobart the same way Table Mountain does for Cape Town in South Africa. With a summit rising to 1,271 m (4,170 ft), this wide mountain and its oft-snowcapped peak loom over the Tasmanian capital and surrounding Storm Bay. If you're up for a long stroll, hike 22 km (14 mi) to the top from the city. From here, you'll enjoy commanding views of Hobart, the Derwent River, and the bay. If you view of the mountain from the city, try to spy the Organ Pipes, a magnificent cliff of dolerite columns. Using our international travel planner, Hobart attractions like Mount Wellington can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Amazing views really worth the trip. Not many things are free these days but we had a hire car ( so not completely free) but really glad we took the drive. Stunning views.

Worth the wait. Spectacular views. Next time we will do the ZigZag walk. We have attempted so many times to go up the mountain however the weather has always stopped our plans... NOT THIS...

This is such a beautiful spot, easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking spots usually becoming available with short or no wait at all. Great place to see the city specially if you can’t or don’t want to hike to get to an amazing viewpoint. Toilets available at the top. There’s some hike options starting at the top, midway up or bottom. From half a day walks to full day walks. There’s a coffee shop midway up. I recommend going when the sky is clear or mostly clear as otherwise you might not see anything at all (it happened to me once)

Must see in Hobart. Weather at the top is super unpredictable. It can be sunny at the bottom but 0 degrees at the top with strong winds or snow even. Awesome view. One of the lookouts was closed. We saw a wallaby eating.

Beautiful views from Mount wellington on a sunny summer day. The drive is easy up the hill and lots of parking available. Sometimes it is challenging to find a car park. Bus services are also available. Toilet facilities and garbage disposal bin is provided. You do not have to pay anything but encouraged to keep the place clean. Small walks are available and benches for sitting is too. You can see Hobart habour from Mt Wellington. There was strong winds when we visited in 2020. A great place to have picnic lunch or dinner and watch the sunset.

The Mount Wellington lookout is a really nice place to visit in Hobart. It's really cold and windy up on the top, but the view is really beautiful. It would be a good idea to bring a pair of gloves and a warm jacket, since it's so refreshing up there. I really enjoy going to this place, and it's always such a pleasure to see the beauty of nature.

Top place for amazing views of Hobart area on a clear day. Be prepared for cold temperatures at the summit.
