Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
Established almost two centuries ago, Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens overlooks the Derwent River and the Tasman Bridge. These gardens hold historic plant collections and a large number of significant native and exotic trees and flowers, many dating back to the 19th century. At this location, you can visit the world's only Sub Antarctic Plant House, where plants from the islands located in high southern latitudes are displayed in climatically-controlled habitats mirroring the natural conditions of their native environments. Take a short walk from the city center to see the site's historic convict-built walls, or picnic on the grass. Make sure to stop by the visitor center, which houses a small restaurant, souvenir shop, and a gallery with regularly changing displays. Great gardens to visit with different themed gardens to explore. Walks do have a number of stairs or hills, however you can still see lots without taking these options.

Wow, the second oldest gardens in Australia doesn't disappoint! Particular highlights for us were the food garden and the Japanese garden, but we easily spent half a day here. I would highly recommend bringing a picnic and enjoying lunch here. Or if you can't be prepared there is a restaurant and kiosk. The gift shop is also excellent with high quality products suitable for gardeners. We visited heading into Autumn and were just starting to see the colours change on the males, simply stunning. I'd love to visit in spring and see everything in full bloom.

Had a wonderful morning strolling through these beautiful well maintained gardens. The information provided at the plants was appreciated. The signing for the paths worked well. Enjoyed visiting the glass house. We watched birds interacting with the plants. If you like plants and gardens then don't miss this botanical garden.

Wonderful garden worth the trip with some beautiful specimen and old stone buildings (it is over 200 years old). The bottom of the garden is a bit noisy because it is next to the highway but the top isn’t. The tea room and the shop are both lovely and the service very friendly as are the ducks…

Absolutely gorgeous. Get ready with comfortable walking shoes as it's pretty hilly with beautiful views and gardens that are just delightful. I would definitely recommend visiting! Specialised areas within the gardens too for certain styles, types etc of trees, shrubs, garden

These gardens were established in 1818 & cover 14 hectares. Can easily spend a morning here wandering through. In particular we found the Japanese garden to be one of the highlights. Lots of colourful trees with a classic bridge & numerous water features. Then there's the food garden with fragrant herbs, fruits & vegetables.
