Create an itinerary including Shelly Beach
Shelly Beach is the only west-facing beach on Australia's eastern coast. These waters, part of a protected marine reserve, are filled with a variety of sea life, including species of the eastern blue groper, weedy sea dragon, gloomy octopus, and little penguin. Clear shallow waters lapping this beach make it a popular spot for scuba divers and snorkelers. A haven for sun seekers, this coastline is sheltered from the ocean swell by a reef that faces west. For refreshments, drop by Le Kiosk, a small beach restaurant selling light seafood meals, cold drinks, ice cream, and coffee. By using our Manly journey builder tool, you can arrange your visit to Shelly Beach and other attractions in Manly.

  • Beautiful beach and water, went for a snorkel but swell too high and too crowded so didn’t see many fishes!
  • Beautiful shelly beach. Like the name the beach is full of shells. The coral reef is protected, famous for snorkelling. The beach was very crowded and touristy.
  • One of the best diving spots in Sydney, Shelly Beach boasts magical life underwater. From a range of octopus, squid and a variety of sea brims. Wobbies, Port Jackson’s and lots of fish swimming around. Great to dive on both side - edge of the rocks on the left of the beach and also the pathway on the left hand side.
  • Nice spot for a shore dive. Only downside is the trek from the carpark down to the beach with gear. You need to sit for a moment to catch your breath before heading down to the water for a dive. You'll see lots of fish, a few wobbegong sharks and the odd stingray too.
  • Nice walk to here from Manly. Great place for snorkelling if you go at the right time, sometimes there are many fish, sometimes there's almost none. Can be crowded on warm days.
