The lush Dandenong Ranges National Park provide an ideal escape from urban Melbourne. Among these low mountains--which rise to 633 m (2,076 ft)--you'll find a dense temperate rainforest of towering mountain ash trees. Colorful with flowers in spring, deep green in summer, and occasionally snow-dusted in winter, the area offers numerous activities and charming villages. Head to SkyHigh atop Mount Dandenong for views back to Melbourne. Stop and smell the flowers at the National Rhododendron Gardens or hike through dense stands of soaring mountain ash trees in Sherbrooke Forest. Wander around the shops and galleries in Olinda, Belgrave, and Sassafras. If you want to spend a night or two, reserve a cottage or guesthouse nestled in the woods near one of the area's friendly towns. So close to the city yet like a different world. Lovely places to walk and little towns to visit for crafts and coffee. Also a fantastic botanic garden at Olinda. A lovely escape for a day out.

If you really want to get out in the bush with great walking tracks then this is the place to go. There's also plenty of parking spaces and a Cafe. The 1000 steps is the best if your into exercise and want a challenge. It's surrounded by bushland so makes walking a very nice experience

The Dandenong national park is one to die for! The scenery nature is unmatched! The sight of tree branching over you whilst birds chirp away is a real surreal experience. The entire walk is very peaceful making it a great time to consolidate your thoughts. If you don’t like exercising this is the place for you, get distracted by the views and nature losing track of time! Hope this helps :)

We came here for hiking but due to closure of some of the hiking place, we went for the lyrebird track instead of Kokoda track 1000 steps memorial walk. It was drizzling and we hiked up under the rain. Fresh air and heard lyrebird welcoming us with their lovely voice! A memorable hike for 750m distance before giving up!

A wonderful place to walk in, however do make sure you're aware of trail updates and fallen trees. Many trails are closed so do check online before embarking on long or complex hikes. Numerous picnic grounds and lots of opportunities to spot lyre birds, wallabies, Kookaburras and kangaroos apart from colourful species of parrots and on the flora side all manner of ferns, trees, fungi and more!

This place is absolutely beautiful to spend time with friends, family or alone. Its unique landscape various kinds of plants, flowers and trees were orchestrated well. I never had enough spending time at this garden.
