National Gallery of Victoria offers a great lesson in Australian cultural identity. Founded in 1861, the country's oldest public art museum has a vast collection of Australian Aboriginal, colonial, Impressionist, modern, and contemporary art. There's also an international collection, which displays ancient and modern work by artists from around the globe, including Picasso, Rembrandt, and Degas. Make sure you leave time to see some of the 15,000 snapshots in the museum's photo collection. Also check out what the rotating exhibitions are while you're in town. Is there only one single escalator to Level 1? Ridiculous wait time for single ladies toilet cubicle on Level 1. Were there other toilets somewhere? Overall rather uninspiring, no signs or maps to...

One of the coolest FREE art galleries I have ever been to. Huge fan of the giant red room of paintings. It was glorious. Really loved this place. The information desk gentleman was also so patient and competent. He suggested starting at the top floor with contemporary art and moving downstairs as things get more ancient. I was a huge fan of the queer artists feature they had at the top floor. There was an amazing dance video with shiny curtains and the whole choreography was played backwards symbolizing how regressive our society is. Although I do identify as queer, anyone can appreciate how empowering it is to bring to light the struggles and voices of queer artists. Anyways, my favorite floor was the European painting floor. THE SHEEP SURROUNDED BY CROWS. Brilliant. I love art.

Huge museum with lots to see. Free cloaking service at the entrance. Went for the Picasso exhibition. Simply amazing. There were some free exhibitions too on the upper floors. End up spending a good 3-4 hours here. The staff at the counter are really friendly and helpful.

Melbourne’s another Just Wow! Experience Wouldn't want any of a better experience. Great service wonderful artwork and the culture in this place is very strong. Great place to explore the 3 levels in the Gallery and amazing place for a day out with the fam. If you want to be able to see everything it isn't a 5 minute job so make sure you have plenty of time to come here. But would not expect nothing more. It's got a nice food place on the ground floor prices are average but still isn't cheap like some places. Got some great Photos while I was there. Most recommended

I like it very much. The beautiful paintings and art of Australian artists are really spectacular. I enjoyed the environment very much. Highly recommended for those who like to get familiar with art of aboriginals and signs used in their crafts and paintings. The staff are friendly and helpful. You can get there easily by tram or train…enjoy it!

We went to the museum because we wanted to enjoy our night outside. The place was nice we couldn’t imagine we were at the museum. They made good use of the outdoor space by offering a small pink “swimming pool” with a sculpture in the center. Everyone, old and young, was in the pool to cool off. The atmosphere was very nice. You can order drink or food but they aren’t cheap. You can go for the aperitive with your friends , sit on the garden and enjoy the place and the music. The DJ is at the entrance of the museum but you can listen to his music in the garden because there are the speakers.
