Over 10,000 species of native and exotic plants and animals inhabit a lush and immaculately kept landscape at Royal Botanic Gardens. Originally established in 1846 by Lieutenant Governor Charles La Trobe, the gardens today provide 38 hectares (94 acres) of colorful natural displays for you to wander among. The manmade Guilfoyle's Volcano serves as a reservoir and offers you a stunning view of the Melbourne skyline. The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden provides an engaging introduction to botany for kids, and the lake system hosts diverse aquatic species. If you visit during summer, special events happen on the grounds almost daily. To visit Royal Botanic Gardens and other attractions in Melbourne, use our Melbourne tour app.

FREE to wonder at your own pace. Good information. So very tidy and well cared for interesting areas. Or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

A gorgeous slice of natural beauty right in the heart of Melbourne. Free to visit and explore to your hearts content. Magnificent views of the city to be found all throughout the gardens. Highlights are Fern Gully, Long Island and the Sensory garden. Whilst walking through the temperate rain forested Fern Gully it is hard to believe you are in the middle of Melbourne. One of my favourite places to walk and explore.

I know that this is already a very popular tourist spot, but I still believe that it is understated on how amazing this park is. The gardens are really pristine and picturesque with a really amazing atmosphere. There were lots of people having picnics and many facilities to enjoy. There's a kids garden and different themes of gardens. Definitely make this apart of your time if you're visiting melbourne. :)

An absolutely beautiful open space with room to breathe and release the stresses of the week. A family-friendly and pet friendly park with many benches too. Be sure to bring along a good book, lunch, and a hot drink during the wet and cold seasons!!

It is such a nice place to visit with friends, family or your loved ones. You can have a walk or just enjoy the beauty of the nature. The park is very nice and clean. There are enough garbage bins and also bathrooms here. You can find drinking water taps here if you are too thirsty. I had a great time here!

Absolutely beautiful. It has been the highlight of my trip to Melbourne. We caught the tram from the city and got off at the Shrine of Remembrance and had a short walk to the garden where we had a coffee before starting to explore. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the grounds were immaculate. My camera ran out of power and time absolutely flew. I will be going back tomorrow. Please enjoy some of my photos.
