Luna Park Sydney is a heritage-listed amusement park located at 1 Olympic Drive in the harbourside suburb of Milsons Point, New South Wales, Australia, on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour. The amusement park is owned by the Luna Park Reserve Trust, an agency of the Government of New South Wales, and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 March 2010.
The park was constructed during 1935 approximately 600 metres (2,000 ft) from the northern approaches of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and ran for seventy-month seasons until 1972, when it was opened year-round. Luna Park was closed in mid-1979, immediately following the Ghost Train fire, which killed six children and one adult. Most of the park was demolished, and a new amusement park was constructed; this originally operated under the name of Harbourside Amusement Park before resuming the Luna Park name. The park was closed again in 1988 as an independent engineering inspection determined that several rides needed urgent repair. The owners failed to repair and reopen the park before a New South Wales government deadline, and ownership was passed to a new body.

Reopening in 1995, Luna Park closed again after thirteen months because of the Big Dipper rollercoaster: noise pollution complaints from residents on the clifftop above the park caused the ride's operating hours to be heavily restricted, and the resultant drop in attendance made the park unprofitable. After another redevelopment, Luna Park reopened in 2004 and has continued operating since.

Luna Park is one of two amusement parks in the world that are protected by government legislation; several of the buildings on the site are also listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate and the New South Wales State Heritage Register. Architectural plans and drawings of rides and buildings at Luna Park (Milson’s Point, New South Wales) are held at the State Library of New South Wales, including the Ghost Train ride. The plans and drawings include some from Luna Park (St Kilda, Victoria) and Luna Park (Glenelg South Australia).
The park has been utilised as a filming location for several movies and television shows.

  • Luna Park is just an amazing place for all ages. There is something for everyone and some amazing views of the Sydney Opera house and Sydney Harbour bridge. Great fun with some epic rides. Entertainment for the little ones, great food. Very clean and very high safety standards makes this one of my favourite places. Highly recommend that you book tickets online it can safe you up to 50%. Long rows but it moves pretty quick. Highly recommend this place for a whole day of fun for everyone.
  • Luna Park is good for a few hours of fun, but not the kind of place you're going to spend an entire day. Is it worth 60 dollars for a rides pass?.. eh it's not really a great value. But it is cool that the park is free for those who don't want to ride. The park itself feels well maintained and the few rides they do have are pretty decent. Sledgehammer is definitely the most thrilling ride in the park. My favorite thing about Luna Park is the unique landscape. Unlike North American Parks that are built way out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by miles of parking lots, Luna Park has incredible views of the harbour, bridge and skyline.
  • Went for a conference, which happened to be held at Luna Park, amazing spot for the event. I heard that the theme park is actively open to the public. Unsure what you need to pay to enter & play with your kids. I can imagine a nice family day out there tho!
  • Took the kids to Luna Park on a holiday but wasn't overly impressed. Some of the rides are impressive for the limited space although I'm not sure how people live so close to it. The fact that you can enter and exit freely and only pay for rides is a great aspect especially for parents. The food and merchandise is VERY overpriced (water $5.60) and nothing to get excited about. Could do with a freshen up in some areas.
  • We were surprised how great Luna Park was and how much it has improved. Food was expensive, but that's a given at all amusement parks. A great selection of fun rides. The new coasters were fun. Line ups weren't too bad either. If you want to save money, purchase your tickets a few weeks before, otherwise prices are jacked up as you get closer and on the day.
