Located on Mount Eliza and overlooking Perth Water, State War Memorial houses the Cenotaph, a well-known city landmark. Erected in honor of all Australian soldiers whose remains are buried elsewhere, the Cenotaph represents an "empty tomb." Anzac Day is a national holiday observed in April to honor Australians and New Zealanders who served in the military and died in wars and peacekeeping operations. On Anzac Day, a service is held at the memorial that attracts over 40,000 visitors. At this site, you can also visit the flame of remembrance and a pool of reflection, inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. Put State War Memorial on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Perth visit website.

  • Stunning location next to the Botanical Gardens. Reverent and moving. Ideal for finding shade under a nearby tree & contemplation.

  • Love this place. Tranquil and nice place to spend the day. Will return anytime again as I have yet to complete exploring the whole Kings Park and Botanical Garden.
  • A large and imposing war memorial. The ground level lists names from many conflicts. The Memorial itself is very imposing, located overlooking the Swan River to the east and south. Reflect upon the significance of the memorial while taking in the panoramic CBD views.
  • State War Memorial at Kings Park Visited on 25/5/2022 Visitors to the Kings Park will notice the 18m granite obelisk, with the Swan River in the background. The Returned and Services League (RSL) is the custodian of the memorial. I never feel comfortable to see lists of names of men and women who died in wars. What a waste of precious lives due to humans' irrational behaviour. While memorial like this reminds us of the cruelty of wars, humans do not learn any lesson at all: new wars and conflicts continue to take place, lives continue to perish. Lest we forget. The latest casualties include those who died in Afghanistan, Iraq, Fiji and Solomon Islands.
  • What a iconic and romantic place to visit. Magnificent beauty of city at night. worth spending some quality time.
  • Good place to see perth city. Hole city looks from here and also so many things to see hear
