National Railway Museum Port Adelaide
As the country's largest railway museum, National Railway Museum Port Adelaide contains over 100 exhibits from both public and private railway operators in Australia. Tour historic buildings such as the Goods Shed, which stands as a fine example of 19th-century timber-beamed buildings that the South Australian Railway used, and the signal cabin that the Woodville station onces used. Walk through displays detailing the history of women in Australian railways and iconic rail journeys in Australia and relax in a 1947 cafeteria car meant to resemble a carriage from an Agatha Christie novel. If you visit on a Sunday or public holiday from October to April, take a ride on the Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway. Plan your visit to National Railway Museum Port Adelaide and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Port Adelaide holiday builder app.

Our grandson loved the train ride. So much to look at, trains to climb through and so much information. Definitely worth allowing a few hours for a visit.

It has been years since I was last here, but I do remember the range of steam, diesel, locos, railmotors, carriages. It is a great collection with some great stories.

Wonderful experience!! We get to have free ride on the little train 🚂. The old gentlemen work there are very nice and welcoming. We get to see real locomotives 🚂. No need to mention how cool it is to sit in the cabin and pretend you are in Agatha Christie’ s book. One little pity is that, due to the COVID restrictions, we didn’t get to visit the dinning cabin. 🥺🥺 Overall, definitely recommended!!

Had a lovely afternoon reading all about the history of railways in SA and experiencing the cabins of these beautiful trains! Finished with the little train ride around the museum. Highly recommend for a family-friendly day out.

Awesome place for both kids and adults! If you're a fan of Thomas the tank engine you can nerd out here! Recommend getting the family pass if you're an Adelaidean and have young kids. A couple of visits and it's paid for itself!

Went along as they had a day where the old 2000 "Jumbos" would be open to the public. I used to catch these every day in the 90s and early 2000s and had always wanted to look inside a driver's cab of one and I finally got the opportunity! Other than that, NRM is always a great visit, I'm a fan of trains and always love visiting and seeing them all.

Relatives took us to visit museum and we were very impressed by the old trains that they have on display. If you’re spending some time in Adelaide then you should definitely put this place on your must visit list.
