Second only to Bondi in popularity, Coogee Beach is suitable for swimming, relaxing in the sun, and picnicking. Nearby is a busy shopping and dining area, where you can also find hotel accommodations if you choose to stay longer in this quaint part of the city. Though this part of the coast is famous for its dangerous shore breaks, an ocean pool lies at the southern end of the beach in a sheltered area safe for swimming. Lifeguards are on duty daily and on the Wedding Cake Island, rising out of the water about 400 m (1,300 ft) offshore. Coogee Beach is the beautiful little sister to Bondi Beach and is well worth a visit. Take some time to do the coastal walk between Coogee and Bondi.It's a little less "fancy" than Bondi.
