Formarinsee is a lake in the Austrian Alps. It lies in the Bundesland of Vorarlberg and lends its name to the close by Formarinbach, one of the two source rivers of the River Lech.

As part of the ORF TV program "9 places, 9 treasures", the Formarinsee with the Rote Wand (2 km north of the lake) was voted Austria's most beautiful place on October 24th, 2015.

Just arrived. The hike took us 5 hours, from Lech. Some bits better than others but overall a good hike. Fantastic views. I though the lake was bigger... We spent the nite in the Freiburger Hütte...

Walked from formarinsee to lech, a nice long River walk that isn't too stressful on the legs. I'd recommend getting bus from lech then walking back although you obviously could do it the other way round

A beautiful place. There are 2 ways to get to the lake. 1. In Lech on a toll road directly to the lake or 2. Easy to hike up from Dalaas, for example. A fit hiker can do it in about 1.5 hours... Is a not so difficult route to the top. It is definitely worth the visit, as there is also the Freiburger Hütte upstairs, there are cold drinks... I hope I could be of help. Follow pictures...

Absolutely gorgeous lake surrounded by wonderful mountain scenery. Ideal for hiking and mountain biking. Well suited for prams (gravel road). Can be reached by car via the toll road (before 8 a.m.) or by bus that runs regularly from Lech. Also ideal for stream and rainbow trout anglers.

Actually a nice hike to the Formarinsee at 1793m. However, very crowded thanks to the shuttle bus to the lake.
