  • I visited Durnstein Castle in August 2016. Good views of Wachau Valley from the castle trail. I guess this is a false review because I visited 5 years prior to Sept 2021. My visit was to remember...

  • It’s only about a 500 foot elevation so if you are a little in shape you can do it. Busy with lots of people. Great views from the top. Highly recommend.

  • Not too long of a trail, but very steep climb getting up to the castle. Some rock scrambling & lots of uneven steps to climb. We took the steps going up and an easier trail coming back. The views are worth it. So much history here.
  • Not a short climb, a bit difficult for those who are not in shape but possible. Preferably hiking shoes, sneakers will also do 😉. The view is worth the effort don't miss it.
  • The road to the top took me about 30 mins without any rush. The road is nice and safe. Visit of ruins is absolutely free. The views from the top are marvelous. You will also see there some pictures, texts and information to help visualize how the castle looked in medieval times. I totally recommend to visit place if you are somewhere around.
  • These are the ruins of a XII century castle, where Richard The Lionheart was held as a prisoner. There are two routes to the castle. The harder one is a bit shortet and offers more picturesque views to the Danube and the valley. It is about 20 minutes walk, not that hard - mostly stone steps and you can enjoy the view while you are taking a break. The easier route is only slightly longer and there is information about the Crusades and the history of the castle. The ruins are free to explore and also offer great views of the area. It is a very pleasant walk that you should try.
  • Quite a bit to walk the way up, but what a wonderful view! Strongly recommend to get water before you walk, it is quite hard to get water in that area.
