At The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), imagine how the Austrian emperor and his wife sat on the porch and watched tournaments on the square below. The symbol of the city, it overlooks the main street of Altstadt. The name of the place stems from the 2,738 fire-gilded copper tiles covering the roof. Emperor Maximilian I commissioned the three-story balcony to celebrate his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza. Learn about Austrian history from the reliefs and murals depicting scenes of the emperor's life. Eight sculpted reliefs covering the second-floor balustrade illustrate how aristocrats amused themselves. Look for a flanking relief depicting the acrobatic and grotesque dancing of Moorish origin. • Nothing much to see really, but an interesting story behind it. The 600-year old golden roof doesn't even have much gold composition, but is made of fire-gilded copper tiles. Anyway, every visitor.....  more

  • Beautiful old town, all places you need to visit in Innsbruck old town are around this area. Right at the end you get to see this golden roof balcony that is distinctively different from the rest of the building. There are many other colorful buildings around with full of history and culture. So many food options around including McD.
  • Very quaint and easy to stroll small old town. Right at the end you get to see this golden roof balcony that is distinctive different from the rest of the building. Filled with rich history and apparently is converted to a museum now
  • Easily one of the most visited sites in the old centre of Innsbruck, at the same time you can see all of the old buildings and medieval architecture of the original parts of the city. The golden roof glitters when the sun is out, however the site with Nordkette in the background reminds me of beautiful mountainous art works. The snow is falling on the mountain and the trucks are busy removing the last of the Christmas market installations. Visit this space and take in the history of the city in the surrounding streets.
  • The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is a landmark structure located in the Old Town (Altstadt). It is well worth taking a look up close. The Town area which I thought was very charming and walkable. Get your picture and then find a good place to eat or shop.
  • Just another place to visit in Innsbruck. Nothing particularly special. Rather nice accent as you don't see golden roofs on many houses.
