Create an itinerary including Franziskanerkirche
A fusion of Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles, Franziskanerkirche represents one of Salzburg's oldest churches. Stop by the church, located in the heart of the city's Old Town, and admire the exterior's medieval construction, dating from the 1200s. Its footprint is squat, its roof is relatively steep, and its facade features high arched windows. Make your way inside and note the change in appearance as you transition through the naves and vaulted ceilings to the original basilica. Wander through the different chapels within, and be sure to view the religious works of art and Baroque decorations that contrast with the rest of the building. With our international travel planner, Salzburg attractions like Franziskanerkirche can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • A surprisingly plain gothic-style church. Not worth setting aside time or going out of your way to see.

  • Quite unassuming from the outside, but Franziskaner Kirche in Salzburg has such a beautiful inside
  • Impressive Franziskaner Church, just one minute walk from Salzburg cathedral.
  • very nice place, with museum downstairs. it has tragic history, but for now church looks very good
  • Another gothic style church. Some of the features quite interesting. I’m not sure I’m a fan of the e posed brick interior but it’s a cheaper building material from marble. The towering columns were impressive and still amazes me that they were able to construct these types of buildings. Well worth having a look
  • Extraordinary church in central Salzburg. The church doubles in height towards the rear with the roof being supported by amazing tree-like pillars which soar upwards. Free to visit and open most of the time. The church is part of the cathedral - residenz complex and is connected to the state apartments by secret passageways.
