Featuring two slim spires visible from a great distance, Votivkirche serves as one of Vienna's major Gothic landmarks, known for its stained-glass windows. Commissioned immediately after a failed assassination attempt on the life of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1853, the church was finally finished nearly two decades later. Consecrated on the silver anniversary of the emperor's marriage, the structure sits across from the site of the assassination attempt. The exterior features an intricate facade embellished with sculptures, while inside you can see an eye-catching altar decorated with glass mosaics and alabaster columns. • One of the joys of Vienna is its churches. Wander in any of them from the street and you are sure to discover something to delight and surprise. The scale and grandeur of this church is on a par with most cathedrals. It is simply vast. The enormous scaffolding for the internal renovation is impressive in its own right. Hopefully when the restoration is complete and the century of dust is removed it will reveal the rich colours hiding beneath.
  • One of my favorite churches to visit when in Vienna. Although it is undergoing renovations it doesn’t take away from the interiors beauty. Some of the best stained glass windows I’ve seen. The main altar is beautiful without being gaudy. I have visited this church over a dozen times in the past 4 yrs and always leave with a peaceful heart.
  • The temple was built at the end of 19th century. Just fabulous architecture. Many unusual stained glass windows in the temple. During the visit, it was partially under reconstruction. Entrance is free.
  • One of the beautiful Churches of Vienna. If you like to see an architectural brilliance, please visit this church. But I think it's high time to rethink in this 2023 what is the motive behind all the things going inside this beautiful place of worship. I was so sad to see all the business going inside this church. Remember the words of Jesus who said " these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade". Business are going on inside and outside ( a beautiful church is covered with a huge advertisement). Time to change. I can't blame the people who go away from the church.
  • Very, very beautiful church. Th interior is just mesmerazing, I would even say it's more beautiful than Stephansdom due to the stained glass inside.
