Watch a mountain burning at Yanardag, where continuous natural gas flames light up a hillside near the Caspian Sea on the Absheron Peninsula. Part of Azerbaijan's enormous gas reserves leaks up through a thin, porous sandstone layer, igniting into flames that spread for about 10 m (33 ft). The spectacle--duly noted by Marco Polo--can reach up to 3 m (10 ft) in height, and burns in all weather. Plant yourself in the newly constructed amphitheatre opposite and take in the sight. • You know what you’re getting here before you visit. There’s a souvenir shop and a coffee shop, goodto visit in winter, the warmth is lovely. The views over the peninsula are fabulous.

  • A must go place and good experience to see naturally flames coming from mountain from 1000’s of years…. Addition to that they have facility to drive quad bike with tour guide of the whole mountain( a great experience) and archery also available.
  • Due to the natural gas in this area, the fire never stops...its burning always...its a nice for a stroll around the hills, you can rent mountain bikes to go around the place...has a decent kids play area too...
  • Nice place to visit during winter, especially. Not many people and ticket prices are also reasonable. In half hr you can cover whole area. Other activities also available e.g. archery...scooter rides. Enjoy. Thanks
  • It is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. Flames jet into the air 3 metres (9.8 ft) from a thin, porous sandstone layer. It operates under control of the State Tourism Agency and is located in the village of Mammadli. It is very nice to visit if you were in Baku. Youc can use Bolt or special driver.
  • - Non stop fire from natural gas - amazing when see it in reality - small place ( 30 minutes is enough)
