One of the most iconic landmarks of Nakhchivan is without doubt the Mausoleum of Momine Khatun. The ten-sided structure, adorned with intricate mosaics and tilework, dates all the way back to the 12th-century, when it was built by the famous architect Ajemi Nakhchivani. Its construction was commissioned by a local ruler, Shamsaddin Eldeniz, in honour of his beloved wife Momine Khatun. • An interesting monument/mausoleum. There are plenty of these around in this region. This one was average. The mosaics are interesting. Easy to find as it is in the middle of Nakhchivan city. In fact.....  more

  • Momina Khatun was wife of King. So it's a queen's tomb of 12th century. Underground burial chamber is also accessible
  • The mausoleum was erected by atabek Dzhahan Pehlivan in April 1186 for his mother Momine-Khatun, who is considered with her husband, the first atabek Shams ad-Din al-Deniz (the father of Dzhahan Pehlivan) the ancestors of the Eldegiz dynasty and the founder of the state of Atabeks. The most outstanding landmark Nachchivan is skillfully decorated with a complex geometric pattern and quotes from the Koran. Grand decahedral mausoleum was the real medieval skyscraper reaching 34 meters in height. Today it is only 25 meters high. Each side of the surface is completely covered with exquisitely carved Arab writings in kufic style, styled as geometric patterns. What is more, ornaments of the nine out of ten (sides) are different. Only one repeats itself, on the recess where it was supposed to be an exit. The top of the mausoleum is decorated by a skilful stalactite composition.
  • When I visited, this place was closed. I waited a little bit. Guide came and explained the place. It was wonderful.
  • It is a high adobe building placed in a garden.i remember gonbad tower in iran when i see it.they have some likness.
  • It is a great place in Naxcivan and its landmark. I visit it two years ago. It was terrific place. Momine khatun was the wife of Naxcivan ruler. He made this place as a memorial of his wife but he died before the bulding making finish. His son continues his fathers made.
