Citadelle de Dinant
A fortress that watches over the city, Citadelle de Dinant stands on the site of a fort that was constructed in 1051. The citadel blends with the cliff face on which it sits, complete with a grassy roof, so, from a distance, it's difficult to see. However, once inside, a huge interior courtyard and a museum offer visitors a glimpse back in time. Climb the 400-plus steps leading to the entrance, or save your energy and ride a cable car to the top. In the museum, learn about the fortress' history with life-size figurines in dioramas, as well as traditional museum exhibits. Go up the stairs to the upper walls of the citadel for a view over the Meuse Valley. Purchase your tickets when you arrive; the attraction is rarely crowded. Put Citadelle de Dinant and other Dinant attractions into our Dinant travel app, and watch your holiday take shape.

The citadel is very strong strategic rocky construction on the top of the mountain with strong historic heritage, inside citadel you can visit 14 meaningful historic spots and the museum is very impressive they used visual and acoustic sound to make the impression of that days tragedies that had taken place. The citadel tour has also an option with combo to go for boat trip which was a nice choice. You can combine and enjoy the boat with nice atmosphere

You need to pay €11 when you enter this place. It does not matter where you park, up or down. They have a counter at the top and bottom, with small entrance. You can either walk the stairs or take the cable, your choice but you still need line up and pay the fee. Parking is free up at the fortress. So it is best to park there, pay, pick your choice to go down. When you are done, line up to make your way back. Don’t bother to go in front of the line to see if you can bypass everyone just because you bought ticket from the top. You still have to line up. Enjoy!!

A beautiful historical building where they tell you the history of the battle in August 1914. Also the history of the town of Dinant. There were multiple rooms with information and displays and a coffee shop with waffles. The views from the top were breathtaking as it showed the whole city of Dinant and the river. I would highly recommend the visit and to take the cable car as it is worth the experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by the citadel of Dinant. The citadel's show her rich history from the Middle Ages to the Second World War. From the top is a beautiful view of the city. To get there you have to use the stairs, there are 408 or you can go up by cable car. You can also drive a car, there is a parking.

A very beautiful place. Everything is concentrated in one place. Those who go up to the fortress are better to go up by cable car and go down the stairs. So that the ascent will not be difficult. The pastime itself is no more than 4-5 hours Only for those who want to walk around the stores.
