Create an itinerary including Iglesia de San Francisco
Explore the craftsmanship and artistry that went into the creation of a Catholic church at Iglesia de San Francisco. The original church of this establishment was actually completed in 1581, but the structure collapsed in the 17th century due to snowfall. The edifice you see today is the second church, built in the 18th century, with part of its convent used as a museum. From outside, view the Mestizo-Baroque stonework. Take a tour of the inside to see areas not normally open to the public, such as the belfry and the painting collection in the museum. Even without a tour, step inside to view the art originating from locals and the Spanish colonizers. Make Iglesia de San Francisco a part of your La Paz vacation plans using our La Paz trip app.

  • Go inside! There is a lot to see, walls, roof, golden things. I'm not a good catholic citizen but I can say that it is beautiful.

  • This is a beautiful church both exterior and interior. The tour of the Bell Tower was good as it offers views of the streets below. But the steps could be quite steep so have to be careful.

  • A beautiful church in the centre of la paz. There is an entrance fee for the museum next door and you combine it with the church. We were not able to get to the ground floor of this Basilica. But you can have a view from the upper back of this building. If you are in la paz this is a nice thing to do. Takes around 1 hour and you get a guide.
  • The entrance fee is 20 Bolivian currency and a guide is compulsory. Photography and films are not allowed in the internal part of the church and the museum. The guide cannot speak English properly.
  • You actually are not supposed to take photos inside of this place so any photos on here of the inside actually goes against gods wishes and therefore you are going to hell for that so just keep that in mind when visiting that there are no photos inside thanks.
  • Well preserved church, there is a museum and you can visit the gardens of the monastery and the roof of the church. The visit worth.
  • Excellent guided tour. Beautiful paintings lots of history fantastic architecture. Great views from the bell tower
