Probably one of the last things you'd expect to see at an altitude of 3,656 m (11,995 ft) on the edge of the desert, Train Cemetery presents a vast collection of historical trains and locomotives. The trains stand as a monument to Uyuni's past as a prosperous mining town. After the collapse of the industry in the 1940s, the trains were simply abandoned on the edge of town, left to the mercy of scavengers and the winds blowing from the nearby salt flat. You can wander freely around the site and take pictures, but if you want to climb the trains, be careful of the sharp, rusty edges. Using our world travel planner, Uyuni attractions like Train Cemetery can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • The train cemetery was everything I was expecting it to be. An absolute tourist trap. A bunch of rusty trains with tourists climbing on them. Couldn't leave fast enough

  • I don't recommend wasting time here. It's and unattractive junkyard that somehow fascinates people. Why? It escapes me. It's just a sad monument of a bygone industrial era, and an eye sore. If at...

  • It's cool to check out for 10-15 minutes but you don't need long here. Basically makes you feel like you're in the Mad Max movie with all the abandoned trains. There's also a big tourist trap Uyuni sign as well 👀
  • Some what interesting but extremely overshadowed by the real draws in the region: the Salt Flat and far reaches of the Altiplano. It's fortunate it is normally done as the first stop on a series tour, otherwise it would look even more pedestrian by comparison.
  • It is interesting to visit. Specially crowded in the mornings. Go at sunset to have the place for your self. It just sad that they don’t even put some proper stairs to facilitate the access over the rails (between the parking and the trains ) No entrance fee.
  • Cool tourist attraction in Uyuni. Worth seeing but gets boring relatively fast. If it’s part of your tour, look forward to it, but don’t go out of your way to see it.
  • Not much to do but take pictures of rusted and disintegrating train parts. The statues at the entrance are cool, but not necessarily worth the detour unless you are a train or metal art enthusiast.
