Museu da Lingua Portuguesa, Sao Paulo

Create an itinerary including Museu da Lingua Portuguesa
One of only a few museums in the whole world dedicated to a single language, Museu da Lingua Portuguesa is located in the renovated Estacao da Luz railway station. The busy station was chosen to house the museum because it was precisely here that many non-Portuguese speaking European and Asian immigrants got acquainted with the language for the very first time. Wander around the old station to have a look at its iconic Romanesque red-brick arches and iron pillars. Use the museum’s displays to gain a better understanding of the Portuguese language’s origins, history, and evolution over time. Though the museum’s exhibits are all in Portuguese, foreign visitors can still pick up the rhythm and flow of the language through videos, recitations, and interactive presentations. • I loved being there and seeing all the amazing exhibits. It is a beautiful place. However it was very chaotic. Lots of sounds of numerous exhibits were on top of one another. At points it was hard to take. I couldn’t find a way to get any translations of anything. But it’s still certainly worth a visit for anyone, regardless of your native language.
  • As a language aficionado, I just loved this museum! You need to know a bit of Portuguese of course to make it really interesting, but there is also some content in English that you will be able to understand. It's very interactive and fun, with bunch of screens, lights, audio. There are a few floors so you can spend quite a lot of time inside. It's free for everybody on Saturdays.
  • Beautiful Exhibition. It was very interesting and informative. Very interactive with modern elements and nicely laid out. It was free of cost (at least on the Saturday afternoon in March that I visited). Located inside the same building as a train station that is also a beauty on its own. There's also a coffee shop on the premises and a beautiful partk and another exhibit right across the street, so there's much to do in one location for an afternoon out. Definitely recommend as a fun thing to do in Sao Paulo.
  • Super interesting, interactive and modern museum. Conveniently located right next to the “estação da luz” subway stop. Worth the visit for sure! And across the street from the pinacoteca and a beautiful park (better enjoyed from the museum terrace view, as the park looks a bit unsafe with lots of drug addicts lying around).
  • I tend to prefer the museums with big collections, this is not, but the multimedia is very well prepared to take contact with the Portuguese language, its accents and in comparison with other languages. The museum is nice and the day was awesome there 😎
