Julio Prestes Cultural Center

The Julio Prestes Cultural Center - Sala Sao Paulo, located in an old train station, is noted for housing the famous Sala Sao Paulo, home of the Sao Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra. The venue features nearly 1,500 seats and is used for regular symphonic and chamber music performances. The site’s state-of-the-art design is often compared to that of the Boston Symphony Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein. The train station building was restored and renovated in the 1990s, as part of an important downtown revitalization project. The station’s large hall was chosen as the main performance space because like the finest 19th century concert halls, it resembles a shoebox, considered an optimal design for such venues. Check the center’s official website for an updated list of concerts and other special events. • Any concert there is a real pleasurable experience. From a classical concert to a more popular one. The sound is amazing from any part of the auditorium where you sit.

  • It is a beautiful place to have both visual delight at seeing the Sala itself as well as auditory experience by listening to the musicians performing. It's food for the soul. One feels privileged to be there. Before the symphonic, people sit have either soup or a glass of wine or browse the pretty gift shop.
  • I recommend visiting Sala Sao Paulo for an unforgettable music experience. The Rachmaninoff 2nd Symphony performed by the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Louis Langree was a remarkable highlight. The concert hall has exceptional acoustics and is truly breathtaking.
  • It is an amazing touristic place to go. Well known outside for many countries and also actors and Famous from Brazil comes to visit this amazing place located now in the middle of São Paulo city
  • It's beautiful inside. If you stop looking for a great evening with great classical music played by amazing professionals, then this place is a must. The area of downtown Sao Paulo is a bit run down, but the opera house is still incredible.
  • Great venue with signs of ancient architectures. It has been a renovated train station. Need to be careful on the surrounding though within the building is totally safe and elegant.
