At the crypt of , a box with handwritten messages stands next to the tomb of the former Bishop Seraphim. Locals consider him a miracle worker and believe that he answers prayers and makes wishes come true. The church's white-and-green tiled exterior is topped with five small, golden domes. Inside, you'll find four icons on the iconostasis, modeled after the icons from Kiev's St. Vladimir cathedral. The builders and the artists who painted the interior walls also worked on the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. Built on the Russian Embassy's initiative between 1907 and 1914, the church served as а center for numerous Russian emigrants in Bulgaria. Note that information at the site is available only in Russian and Bulgarian. Put Temple Sveti Nikolay into our Sofia trip tool to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Sofia.

  • I'm not much of a religious person and I used not to be a very spiritual one until recently but this place was special. Perhaps because you have to think about what you wanna wish and that makes you connect better with yourself, perhaps it's something else entirely but I felt a deep connection to this place a a good vibe, kinda like a benevolent, comforting and safe space or something. Like when you hug someone you love. It might just be me though. It is beautiful nonetheless, it's lovely outside and inside doesn't disappoint either, although it's smaller. The crypts are definitely the highlight and, if there is one place where you should light a candle at, this would be the one.
  • Very pretty little church near Saint Nevski church. Reflects on friendship and connection between Bulgarian and Russian people. Very nice architecture. Small but very well organized and made. The place around it is amazingly beautiful.
  • Very nice small church. For me, more beautiful exterior than interior. Anyway, don’t skip entering - it takes basically just couple min.
  • Such a beautiful Russian church! The building is breathtaking and inside you can see a lot of beautiful “paintings”. Definitely worth a visit. The priest is super friendly and speaks English, he explained part of the church history to us. Come and see it!
  • Beautiful! The interior is also great with a golden theme. It is near the Cathedral. We took e scooter to reach here in 10 Minutes.
