Vitosha Mountain remains the country’s most visited protected area with over 3.5 million visitors every year. Within the park, Branishte Biosphere Reserve and Peat Branishte Reserve serve as one of the first Bulgarian reserves. The natural monument Duhlata represents the longest and one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria. Over 300 km (186 mi) of tourist trails and alleys and dozens marked tourist routes cater to adventures seekers. Ten peaks above 2,000 m (6,500 ft) high offer a backdrop, overlooking cycling and equestrian tourism routes and climbing routes for mountaineers. Multiple nature protection centers, museums, environmental centers, sports, and information alleys also sit within the park, part of the European ecological network NATURA 2000. Breathtaking views of the whole city! Great mountain only 20 mins away from Sofia! I would definitely come back to visit at winter!

Absolutely love it! I think that is amazing that we have a mountain so close to our capital Sofia. Every place in the park is beautiful, the green nature and the views are breathtaking, it's nice and clean for a relax or a good hike at the weekends. Best place around Sofia!

Well well well worth a visit. Would say it is best to go when the cable car is fully operational and cafes are open. There is a handy car park you can park at halfway up to have a good walk around but outside of high season suggest taking lots of fluids and snacks.

It is a must go place, really popular for the locals but as a tourist you should definitely go especially afte you visited parts of the city. This was the second time going to Sofia and it made my experience so much better. The view is amazing, hiking keeps your pulse up. A bit difficult to get to the peaks without help due to kirilic alphabet but with prep you should be able to find online information. My 2nd favorite thing about Sofia (1st thing is the food)

Wonderful hiking place with a blend of easy and more demanding routes. The views over Sofia are imposing in their scale but also you can see out to the other mountain ranges. Wear good hiking boots and make sure you take a good wind-proof jacket.

I live near the mountain and it is amazing, I go to vitosha every now and then and it's great! If you're in Sofia and want to go on a hike, although it's not the tallest mountain, it's a great place to go hiking at! There are a lot of routes, some easier, some harder!
