Feel the grandeur of the Khmer Empire from Terrace of the Elephants, an impressive, intricately carved stone structure overlooking an enormous courtyard once used for ceremonies, royal receptions, and parades. Completed early in the 13th century, the 2.5 m (8.2 ft) high and 350 m (1,148 ft) long stone terrace features carvings depicting elephants, Khmer warriors, and dancers. One of the grandest royal terraces in Cambodia, it boasts five entry stairways guarded by huge elephants with their trunks serving as pillars. Bring your camera to capture the magnificent bas-relief. • Beautiful and all breathtaking. So much history to absorb. Highly recommend. A bit too hot in the pm especially after starting the day with a sun rise visit to Angkor Wat so plan accordingly.

  • Lived in Siem Reap for a few months but Terrace of the Elephants was one of my most favorite places to visit and to see. The whole area surrounding it is also amazing
  • Bayon temple, Baphuon temple, Terrace of the Elephant and Terrace of the Leper King are a cluster of closely located archaeological sites all located within the large Angkor Thom site surrounded by a square moat. They are all built in the 12th century (except Baphuon temple which was built in the 11th century) when the Angkor Empire shifted from Angkor Wat to Angkor Thom. The large Budha faces on the towers of Bayon temple is spectacular. Similar to the architecture and construction style of Angkor Wat, Bayon temple is a mountain type temple and built with large sandstone blocks. Terrace of the Elephant is an extremely long structure, which is used as the observation and salutation platform for the King to inspect the parade of his army.
  • Terraces are nice with elephants carved all over . Though there is not much to see inside as the access to it was closed
  • What a great day out along with the poodles Diesel n Daisy really beautiful walk amongst the stunning massive old trees and terraces of Elephants
  • a smaller part of the entire angkor geological park, yet still exhibiting the classic, ornate buddhist architecture of the late 12th/ early 13th century. most of the original natural material has disappeared due to environmental factors, and the flat terrace that remains is what you can see in front of a large gate, also looking into a large flat plain near the centre of angkor thom. king jayavarman the 7th would sit here and watch his victorious army return home through the victory gate on the east side of the angkor complex.
