Create an itinerary including Sulphur Mountain
Head up Sulphur Mountain for extensive views of six mountain ranges in the Canadian Rockies. Named for the hot springs on its lower slopes, the mountain features both hiking trails and a scenic eight-minute gondola ride to its peak. At the summit, you'll find a 1903 meteorological observatory that still contains antique furnishings. The area at the top also includes a short historical walk and well-maintained observation decks where you can admire the scenery and snap photos. Put Sulphur Mountain and other Banff National Park attractions into our Banff National Park online sightseeing planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • We were on top of the world. The gondola was a beautiful ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. So many interesting and interactive things to do once you reach the summit. It is well worth the price....  more

  • the hot chocolate was expensive but other than that it was worth it! The views are pretty & the trail is in excellent shape. The night show was neat but I think the view is nicer during the daylight. Enjoyed the trail at the very top.
  • A tremendously beautiful spot for a hike. The trail is 5.5 km one way with a significant incline the entire way. It took me approximately 1.5 hours for the hike up but the views were worth it! Lots of parking and a gift shop located at the base where you can soak on the hot springs. Definitely worth the visit if you are close by!
  • We came up at 5:30 pm on a beautiful cloudless day and stayed up until after 8 pm We had the buffet supper with the most amazing views. No bad seat. Overall the experience is good value for money. You simply cannot get this experience short of climbing a mountain and it’s sure nice to be served a drink! The buffet was very good. There were Vegan and GF options although a bit limited but still the effort is there. 6 stars
  • Gondola ride is quite expensive but the view and experience is amazing 🤩🤩🤩
  • Amazing hike with awesome views at the top. Lots of switchbacks and lots of elevation gain. Trail is pretty clear and lots of hikers even though we started really early. Most of the trail is in the forest so I didn’t get burnt. The view at the top was worth it. It is so touristy because people are taking the gondola up and down. We took it down - one way tickets can be purchased for half price. They can only be purchased at the top of Sulphur Mountain. Make sure to start early if you are riding the gondola down because there is a chance tickets may run out. We parked at 7am (hikers can use the Banff Gondola parking lot) and by the time we got down around 12:30, the huge parking lot was packed. Lots to see at the top. There is a whole building with four floors including bathrooms, restaurants (I think all of them require reservations), a whole floor exhibit with history and facts about the Canadian rockies, and an observation deck on level 4. On the first level, there is a deck where we spotted a sheep. Overall, extremely touristy but really cool.
