Create an itinerary including Banff Park Museum
Observe a turn-of-the-century log building filled with mounted specimens of animals, plants, and minerals showcasing Canada's natural history at Banff Park Museum. You'll have the chance to view more than 5,000 taxidermy animals, most of which most can be found in the park. The exhibits outline the region's history, explaining the wildlife that travelers may see during their visit. The museum became a National Historic Site of Canada in 1985 due, in part, to the building which houses it--a 1903 exposed-log building. • It is good that a museum like this is still functioning. Once you accept that this is how museums used to be (but now have mostly been closed down) it is really interesting to see how things were...

  • This is like stepping back in time. The building itself is historical and has beautiful detailing. The taxidermy animals are interesting to look at since you can see them up close. Definitely from...

  • Bring your National Park pass to get in for free and use the washroom facility on the other side of the parking lot before you enter. Step back in time as you enter and explore animals, birds, insects, and learn about the effects of climate change on our planet. The kids enjoyed the museum because of the scavenger hunt in the kid's explorer book (I'm not sure they would have enjoyed it as much without the books). They enjoyed collecting another tag for completing the tasks in the books!
  • Amazing and unique museum. The wildlife over here are really looking beautiful and there are many different types of animals displayed at this museum. The place is over 100 years old and is preserved so amazingly. A must visit place in Banff. Highly Recommended.
  • I would highly recommend visiting Banff park museum national historic site and don't forget to bring your park pass get in for free. first floor wheelchair accessible I didn't see an elevator and huge washroom facility 10 ft away from the museum.
  • It is a place to visit when you are in banff, the staff here is very nice! You'll really learn so much from all they have in store, the taxidermied animals and birds. They have variety of eggs of birds too. It was a zoo here before so you can learn so much from just visiting. They have also small talks that are done to being in more awareness about wildlife. Also, they have made so attempts to bring in awareness regarding the global warming!
  • Hasn't changed since the 80s - great to see at least one part of Banff being original still from when I grew up there. Our kids loved seeing the different sized eggs and the different animals but did comment that Bass Pro in Cross Iron did a better job lol.
