Create an itinerary including Swallowtail Lighthouse
Take in stunning vistas and picturesque beauty at Swallowtail Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the region. Established in 1860, the active structure still boasts its original wooden tower, a rare sight these days. You'll need to descend over 50 stairs, traverse a wooden footbridge, and hike a gravel path to reach the lighthouse, but you'll be rewarded with fine views and a picnic area to enjoy a light snack. Bring along your binoculars and watch for eagles, seals, and even whales. To visit Swallowtail Lighthouse and other attractions in Grand Manan, use our Grand Manan tour itinerary planning tool.

  • Short hike to the lighthouse with breathtaking views. Well-maintained area with many different observation points. Many birds singing half way through in the fir trees even mid October. Places to sit, enjoy the view and have a picnic. More great views from helicopter landing pad nearby.
  • Beautiful views, loved reading the history of lighthouse and how it progressed over the years. Steep stairs leading down to path for access to lighthouse, reasonable $ for entry to lighthouse. Spectacular views. Gift shop has lots of nice items.
  • A beautiful place to visit. As long as you can walk down the steep steeps, and across the narrow foot bridge you will have easy access to this very scenic location. Tours of the lighthouse are often available, and you can also climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. There is also a gift shop at the entrance. Parking is somewhat limited to about 10 cars. .
  • Beautiful spot, amazing views. The volunteers were very kind enough to tell us about the history and give a tour inside the lighthouse. Wish I clicked more pics inside, lots of history. Purchased a replica from the gift store as a souvenir. Amazing place and people. Will visit this place again for sure when I go back to Grand Manan Island.
  • The view was absolutely breathtaking. The hiking on the other hand told me that I was completely out of shape. Lol but it was worth every single step to see the beautiful views and to have a 360° view.
