Historic Markerville Creamery Museum, Markerville

We went during the August 21 show and shine and we were so pleasantly surprised with the entire community! A fantastic slice of history in Alberta . We got to experience the best of this community with food, fantastic pie and ice cream along with arts, crafts and live music. The setting of this community is very quaint. We will be back for some peace and quiet and bring a few of our friends to camp next time

We have heard about the creamery for a couple of years now and we decided it was time to see what it was all about. We were not disappointed. Follow the interesting production of butter in the old days. It’s interesting how a 20 hp steam engine by the use of various jackshafts provided power for the whole operation.

A small but well thought out museum. It is interactive enough that my 6 year old enjoyed it. He looked at all the machinery and I told him what their jobs were. My 9 year old and I enjoyed it too. Educational signs but interesting. The cafe has plenty of outdoor seating in the lovely green area, some of which is covered. The short menu is well executed. They sell Foothills Creamery ice cream, which is good quality. After you visit the museum, take time to walk around the town. There are numerous historical interest points.

Interesting history of Markerville, the Creamery Industry and about life in Alberta in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Be sure to visit the monument to Stephansson the poet of the Rocky Mountains near the Creamery. Also only a few kilometers away is the Stephansson hose historic site.

Awesome historical location that informs and teaches you about a creamy and how cream is separated from milk and then how butter is made. Then you can have ice cream right there and enjoy the history behind it. I was here 20 years ago and it was enjoyable now as it was then. I would recommend coming here if you can make your way here. There are some interesting activities to participate in and other interactive things. Lots of seating to relax on and a bridge to cross over to a beautiful park area.
