This is a great museum! Lots of interactive exhibits to show Montreal's past. It is engaging and fun. There is a pirate section for kids which I found amazing! I thought it might be a bit boring but it was not! Really worth visiting. There is a nice gift shop in one of their buildings.

Outstanding museum for the history buffs! Great job Montreal. Way to own and love your city!! I wish my city had this type of museum to highlight its beauty. I couldn’t get enough. Do NOT miss the video! Starts every half hour. Then find yourself following the signs through the multitude of exhibits. I was mesmerized. Literally read every piece of information, well almost. From the way the exhibits were presented, to the cool walkways and the old sewer, this place was the highlight of my trip to Montreal. Will come back if I’m ever back.

It’s a beautiful and informative place to visit. We had a group of students also. It gives us a glimpse of how Montreal and Quebec came to be. The contributors and their toil and everything. It’s worth a 45 min of your time. The ticket costs around 15$ and you may buy it online or at the counter. It doesn’t seem busy when we visited which was during weekdays .

We were able to buy tickets upon arrival. So it may depend on the season or time of day, but it doesn't appear that reservations are needed in advance. We only had 4:30-6:00, which was enough for the Vikings exhibit and the gift shop (both of which we really enjoyed). We looked at area E, but did not have time to look more. The cashier told us most people spend 2-3 hours in the museum. They have an elevator to access the different floors but one of the exhibits we saw has stairs only, but you can also walk around it. Highly recommend the visit. The vikings exhibit had many interactive aspects. All info in French and English. The gift shop had a variety of options that we purchased as souvenirs, including porcelain style pottery and dishes, and québécois soap. Adult tickets prices start at age 31 years.

I stopped in Montreal just for this museum and it was such a good choice. They integrated digital projections onto the historic infrastructure beautifully. The displays were captivating, fully bilingual and easy to understand, with silhouettes used to effectively display how fragments fit into the bigger picture. Good use of lighting and music to set a very restful, nearly meditative tone, in some of the spaces. This allowed me to slow down, rest my weary feet, then continue with the next exhibit. The entire museum took approximately 3-1/2 hours.
