Another great trip to Chester lake. Trail is well maintained, trailhead parking is solid. Access is reasonable (gravel road) considering the location. The hike itself is pretty easy with some mild incline. Destination is absolutely beautiful, especially in fall when the larches are turning.

60-70 mins to hike up to the lake. Low to Moderate level. Very scenic. It was a nice quick hike.

Nice, quick, fairly easy hike. Lots of parking spaces. There's a restroom next to the parking lot. Great place to spend your time outdoors.

September 30, 2021 This is my favorite autumn hike! Had done this 3 times and each time just got easier. If you choose a weekday in September, avoiding the weekend crowd and have a spot in the parking lot, you would definitely find this hike both challenging and rewarding. It starts right on a steep climb for half an hour- maybe stop for a drink or catch your breath, or definitely loosen up up your layers as you feel warm. Then you wind up to a clearing and catch a glimpse of the mountain then continue to another steep and some flat to regain your breath and energy.😌. Then you think the climb is over but a few more elevation takes you to a meadow that's so gorgeous you will forget how hard the first climb was. Then furthermore it gets easy up to the gorgeous lake. Once there sit and savor the air , have some snacks and snap photos of the lake and larch trees on the right. On left, you can walk the path towards the rocky mountain all the way to the back where there are more larch trees, kinda like a loop back to the same landing by the lake. If I don't have the patience to hike the Larch. Valley, I am definitely just as amazed at how this hike is enjoyable and worthy. In winter snowshoeing is also great. But I do love the fall hike at Chester Lake!

Amazing lake and a nice hike. The drive to the trail head was a bit hard on our vehicle as the Smith-Dorian parkway is a very bumpy ride. The trail was moderate and we encountered lots of other hikers but I hear you can bump into bears quite often so definitely carry bear spray on you. The lake and its surroundings are beautiful, the water is clear and very cold.
