Military and history buffs, as well as sightseers, relish the chance to see Carleton Martello Tower, a circular fort built during the War of 1812. The barracks have been restored and there are a number of historical displays at the fort, including information on the important role the fort played for nation even as recently as World War II. Don’t miss the spectacular views over Saint John and Bay of Fundy from the fort’s prime position from high up the hill; bring a camera. This is well worth a visit, though currently the tower itself is closed. Interesting history which is presented well in the visitor centre. If the fog isn't in, some great views too

We visited this place because it has one of the best views of the city and it was worth it. You can buy a ticket and listen to the story about this historic place, however, if you want to walk around or even sit outside the building it is free, and if the weather is nice, you can enjoy a lovely afternoon with your family.

Carleton Martello Tower, at the top of the hill overlooking Saint John built in 1812. The tower was under restorations and primarily closed, so wasn't too much to see at the time. However, if you're interested in seeing the size and architecture and some history, definitely worth the visit.

Beautiful views of the area. Nice little informative museum nearby. Restrooms available. Friendly guides. Only a few dollars to get in.
-
Easy walking outside & has wheel chair access.
-
We couldn't get in to the tower at the time we went, but the view is spectacular.
