Visit the oldest continuously operating farmers market in Canada at Saint John City Market. The market's first charter dates back to 1785, and the site continues to thrive today with loyal farmers and customers. The building itself is said to have been built by unemployed sailors and is in the Second Empire style of architecture. Farmers, butchers, and fish merchants all have stalls throughout the market; look for tasty local snack foods and drinks as you shop. • One of the oldest farmers market in Canada. Lots of history here. Love the architecture and interior space. However when I visited in October 2021, there were only a few vegetable vendors. Mostly vendors selling arts and crafts. I assume it is due to the pandemic, and business has been slower than usual and it is the end of the growing season.
  • This is one of the oldest city markets in Canada. I had the opportunity to visit there while on a cruise excursion. I could have spent most of the day there. It is a collage a vendors with various kinds of merchandise. There was some beautiful artwork and creative handmade crafts. I purchased some handmade items for Christmas gifts from a woman that traveled from Prince Edward Island. There is a friendly and inviting vibe in the market.
  • Fabulous. A historic market building AND a lively working market AND fresh coffee?!? I am in!! There was a good assortment of food and local and/or touristy items available. Being a cruise ship visitor I couldn’t buy any fresh food to take back with me but I certainly wanted to. I think my favorite thing was the dulse that they had for sale!!!
  • Beautiful place to buy fresh local foods and products. You must visit the 'Uncorked Tours' bar! Bring your lunch and enjoy some greats local drinks!
  • A nice small and neat place to buy some stuff. Sometimes crowdy but a must see while in Saint John, Canada
