Create an itinerary including Museo Historico Nacional
Occupying the former palace, Museo Historico Nacional covers the time period from the European discovery of the Americas to the colonial era, through independence and into the modern era. A full 18 rooms recount Chile's history, exhibiting various collections of objects from everyday life and artwork, including portraits of important figures such as Ferdinand Magellan--the first to explore southern and western Chile. See women's clothing, sewing machines, and furniture. The final section addresses the coup that brought Augusto Pinochet to power and features a sobering display of Salvador Allende's broken glasses. Take an English audio guide, since the all information is in Spanish. • Highly recommended to immerse yourself in the history. Excellently presented. Also the photo documentation is on the highest (European) level. It is a pity that there are no explanations in English in the rooms.
  • The staff at this museum were so kind and helpful. Backpacks are not allowed in but there are free lockers outside for storage. The security guards were so nice to me and made sure I saw all the floors of the exhibit. They really serve as both guides and guards in a way. I was impressed! And it’s free.
  • There is a luggage storage and it is a clean environment. It's very satisfying for a free place to visit.
  • Average for the English speak. Free entry and open on Sunday till 6pm Description are in Spanish so not great for non Spanish speakers- could have a separate description book for different languages. Not particularly big.
  • Telling a story that is not likely to satisfy everyone but informative someone who knows little about the country (like me). Well organized and with some well designed scale models.
