The centerpiece of Santiago, Plaza de Armas continues to represent the pulse of the capital, full of lively locals and historic buildings. Once centered on the gallows, the square now prominently features a statue of Simon Bolivar. Stroll around the plaza to notice important landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, the central post office building, and the city government headquarters. Grab a drink at one of many cafes, watch the street life whiz by, or shop for jewelry and souvenirs in the nearby arcade. Put Plaza de Armas and other Santiago attractions into our Santiago trip itinerary maker website, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A popular spot for locals and visitors alike, the square offers a lot of shade under the palm trees, which is taken advantage of by hordes having a rest, and generally watching the world go by.

  • This is the square, where you can find some of the oldest buildings in town, with Cathedral, Post Oddice and so on, very popular with locals, you can also eat good food there

  • One of the icons from Santiago de Chile. Lots of the history of this country was related to this place. People here were very kind. The place is very safe to walk around with no major concerns. It can take you ten minutes up to a full day, depending your interest on the very rich history from Chile.
  • Worth the visit but be aware of your belongings. The staff in the mall nearby reminds me staying the right side of the plaza and it is safer. You will find lots of policeman in this square.
  • There are just so many historical buildings around this plaza that it's definitely worth a visit if you are in the city of Santiago and you want to experience a little bit of Chilean history. If you come on Sunday, it's rather quiet because all the surrounding shops and businesses are closed. But if you come on any other day it is busy, packed with people and full of activity. Around the square, I do recommend that you visit the cathedral of Santiago, maybe one of the museums and then the nearby restaurants that serve up some awesome hot dogs "completos" for lunch!
  • Though it has some nice buildings, definitely it is not the placel that you are looking for in Santiago. Not safe, girls offering their 'services' even early in the morning...
  • All South American have a plaza in which their historical heroes are exalted. Lots of local people dwell around this plaza. Caution and awareness are always recommended.
