Where Prince Zhong's mansion once stood, now stands Suzhou Museum, an exhibition building designed by a famous Chinese-American architect. Surrounded by exquisite courtyards, the three-story building represents a blend of modern halls and traditional gardens. You can visit three main areas of the museum--the central, western, and eastern areas. As you stroll through the museum, inspect the vast collection of Chinese national treasures ranging from handicraft works, paintings, and calligraphy, to porcelain, celadon, and silk relics. The museum also introduces its visitors to Chinese traditions, customs, festivals, belief systems, and folk activities. To find out how to plan a trip to Suzhou, use our trip itinerary maker.

Over crowded and in a horrible building. The old courtyard section is stunning but the exhibition rooms in the new building designed by a famous architect is so over rated.

Very nice museum and unique architecture. A good place to visit to learn about Suzhou heritage history.

Best museum in Suzhou, beautiful architecture and great collection. The New Suzhou museum was designed by I. M. Pei, a famous architect who designed the glass pyramid for the Louvre. With a perfect combination in art culture and design in modern architecture form, this museum is very popular in tourists. The exhibition objects flourished in history & culture of Suzhou city from prehistoric time to the modern day.

One of I.M.Pei's masterpieces. Every corner I turned delivered an amazing spatial experience. The architect's sensitive response to the vernacular architecture and integration with existing historical buildings makes me a very very happy person. The apertures are also to die for. At the time I went (August 2018) there was a cool contemporary calligraphy exhibition on. The rest of the exhibits are archaeological crafts and artefacts, well curated. One of the better museums I've been to in the area. IMPORTANT NOTE 1***: Make sure you book your ticket online at least 1 week prior!!! The tickets are free, you just need to reserve ahead of time to skip the queue. (I managed to skip the queue because my grandpa pulled the elderly trick and jumped the line entirely, bringing me with him). Don't fall for tour guides trying to sell you tickets to the museum. Even if you waited during weekday it'd only be 30mins max wait. It's free!!! IMPORTANT NOTE 2***: I went through the museum "backwards". Start by going in and turning left towards the stairs and waterfall.

+IM Pei design, impressive architecture! Unique design where combine Chinese culture and modern architect. Natural lighting and comfortable design. +good quality products inside the museum +there is a coffee shop inside selling quality coffee -may not have a guide for non Chinese reader, may want to borrow a recorder for introduction -many tourists, I will suggest to go during weekday....

Suzhou Museum is designed by one of the world’s most famous architects - I.M. Pri who grew up in Suzhou. It is a must visit place of the City. The entry is for free. You can see plenty ancient and painting inside which reflect the history of Suzhou. I have spent 2 hours here. It has a lovely coffee shop but a little cosy. Better to go on weekdays to avoid the crowd of weekends.
