Create an itinerary including Xi'an Mosque
A fusion of both Islamic and Chinese architectural elements, Xi'an Mosque represents one of the most famous Muslim sites in the country. Founded in 742 CE by traveling Arab and Persian traders, the mosque has long served as a hub of worship in the region. Wander the extensive grounds, split into four distinct courtyards, to enjoy the manicured gardens and lush surroundings. As you approach the main building, you'll find an array of calligraphy engravings and brightly-colored awning decorations in hues of red and green. Note that although the mosque features the usual minaret, its tiled rooftops recall the classical Chinese style with their signature upward-curving corners. Keep in mind that the prayer hall does not open to visitors. Use our Xi'an day trip planner to add Xi'an Mosque and other attractions to your Xi'an vacation plans.

  • One of the oldest mosques in Xi'an, in the corner of the Muslim Quarter of Xi'an. In Zhonglou District which is very famous and full of Muslims, The Architure of the mosque is very old and unique, If you want to spend peaceful time and pray it's where you should go.
  • In order to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the food street in the Muslim Quarter, you have to go through some meandering backlanes and alleyways to reach the Great Mosque. The serenity is in stark contrast to activities outside. The Ming architecture is very much evident on all the buildings. Too bad, the main prayer hall is off-limit to tourists.
  • The Great Mosque is one of the oldest and the largest best-preserved Islamic mosque in China. It was built-in 742 AD. For me, it did look more like a landscape beautiful garden than the fixed idea I had of a mosque. A fascinating combination of Chinese courtyards and Muslim architecture. The mosque is still active as many Muslims come here to pray and attend religious events.
  • This ancient piece of architecture resides in the corner of the Muslim Quarter of Xi'an. It is a quiet and somewhat tranquil place amidst the busy street activities in the Muslim Quarter. The architecture is Chinese, characterized by the hipped roofs and courtyard layout. This is still a functional place of worship for the Muslim community, where certain areas are out of bounds to the public. There is much to be admired about the place, as a lot of the original features have been carefully preserved.
  • To best this place was full of history great mosque is really great but I mentioned few things which I felt there that management is not taking care of this place so that’s why this place become weaker it’s really need proper maintenance and attention and detail of work to save history. Over all I had great experience there for Muslims this place is free if you say Salam in a good manner to security guard, or lucky if you come at the pray time entry will be free for Muslims, For non Muslim they charge money for ticket.
