Monteverde Butterfly Garden (Jardin de Mariposas)
Learn about native insects and arachnids at Monteverde Butterfly Garden (Jardin de Mariposas), an ecological education facility located in a mountainous area. Established with an aim to change preconceptions about these creatures (in particular, small ones with lots of legs), the gardens have four different habitats supporting over 30 species of butterfly, while over 20 species of insects and arachnids live in the nature center. Let the guides introduce you to the varied inhabitants of the gardens, explaining their behavior and importance to the ecosystem--and maybe, just maybe, encouraging you to give one a hold. So informative and fun. A great place to walk at a relaxed pace and see wildlife. We learned about many of the insects of the area as well.

Lovely volunteer guides and interactive tour. Our kids really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend, especially those with young kids.

The staff was very friendly, the guides were extremely knowledgeable, biologist level. They walk you through different butterfly houses and are extremely informative. Many beautiful flowers and plants within the location. They also have other insects that they talked about. Obviously, the different butterflies were beautiful. I learned a lot.

This was a great little place. The butterflies and in insects were probably the highlight for us and our kids. We really like handling the insects and even found some of our own a couple days later. Our tour guide really got my kids excited about all of the cool bugs in Costa Rica. It's not nearly as high up in the mountains as the big parks, but it was close, not too expensive and hands on. If you have the time, one entry fee allows 3 days of visiting.

If you have time and/or are looking for a less physically tasking activity I highly recommend it. My guide (I can't remember her name) was very knowledgeable and I learned quiet a bit. As a added bonus you get great views from by the reception area and if its clear enough can see the Pacific. Check them out and don't forget to get something from the gift shop. Better prices then a lot of other places.

The best part about this place was the insect room. Learned so much about local insects and got to see them chrysalis' of multiple kinds of butterflies, and some newly hatched ines that needed transfer to the butterfly rooms. The guide caught the new butterfly and let.one if the guests release it which was cool. It's very hard to get pics of butterflies. But it was cool seeing the different kinds. A bit expensive for the entry fee but overall a nice experience.

I enjoyed going here and seeing some of the local butterfly species. I have been to larger & similar ones in Malaysia and Bornea area so have seen much more diversity so that is why I gave 4 stars. That said, it was a lovely day out to walk there also, enjoy some trails and pics of both flora and butterflies. There is a local eco lodge nearby that also have very good lemon pie and coffee with views so stop in there after!
