Learn about some of nature's most misunderstood creatures at The Bat Jungle. The animal research and observation facility seeks to dispel some of the common misconceptions regarding the winged beasts by teaching about the diversity of bat species, their habitats, their behavior, and the importance they have in many cultures. From behind a glass screen, watch 40 live bats of seven different species flying around a large enclosure, designed to look just like a cloud forest at nighttime. Listen to the ultrasonic echolocation calls and social calls of the bats as they fly around, with the usually undetectable sounds translated through a special receiver. • The bat jungle is a small attraction but the thing that makes it is the obvious enthusiasm of the gentleman who runs it. We didn’t manage the whole tour as we were just popping in after lunch...

  • This was such a unique experience. We took all 6 of our kids ranging from ages 2-16. We all learned and a lot and LOVED seeing the bats. They were up close and personal and they have created a way of experiencing bats like I've never seen. We have seen bats on some of our other tours and even in some of our houses. This tour gave us a much greater appreciation for them. GO BATS! Our guide seemed very knowledgeable and was able to answer most every question our group had.
  • Fantastic! Learned lots about bats, how healthy they are and how great they are for our environment. Kelly, our guide was very knowledgeable and I came away liking bats 90% more! I want to look into building a bat house for them and how they give birth and raise their babies! We weren’t too sure if we should go or not, but very glad we did. We got to see the rescued bats eat at the end. The tour is all indoors. Go to Zambia Africa during October and November! Haha
  • A must visit if you are here in Monteverde! We (all adults) had such a fun time seeing and learning about bats. The guide Vino was very knowledgeable and gave us fun bat facts base on different nationalities. Did you know bats are the only mammal known to hibernate in snow besides polar bear? It was one of my absolute favorite experiences here in Costa Rica. Definitely worth your visit.
  • Love this place. Very informative 40 minute talk about bats and their importance. The. You get to watch the ones they have in a big glasses in area. It’s well worth the money. They do the talking tour at 12 and 3pm. Highly recommend You might not be able to just show up before these times. We did once and nobody was around and the door was closed.
  • As someone who's passionate about conservation and sustainability, it was a very educational experience. Highly recommended for families and basically anyone. I see comments on pricing, but at any ecological sites and sanctuaries I visit in CR, I'd gladly donate to support local conservation and research. $20-30 USD isn't that unreasonable for those who fly in from all over the world spending thousands of $ on hotels and flights to experience CR's richness of nature, wildlife, and various organic products, which wouldn't have been possible without the ecologically significant animals like bats and the conservation effort by the people.
