Observe biodiverse marine life and relax on fine white sand at Parque Nacional Marino Ballena. This national park opened in 1989 to protect the plentiful coral reefs that lie close to the shore. The park's eponymous humpback whales occasionally appear in the vicinity, as they use it as breeding grounds. Coincidentally, the sandbar extending out into the sea also takes the distinctive shape of a whale's tail. Keep your eye out for dolphins and sea turtles in the water as well. The beach here remains relatively untouristed compared with most beaches in Costa Rica, so bring a book along for some tranquil and secluded time in lovely environs. Our Uvita trip tool makes visiting Parque Nacional Marino Ballena and other Uvita attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Amazing beach, beautiful scenery worth going to. Not too far of a walk to parking or nearby lunch stops. We were happy to see this park.
