The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik
Featuring robust stone fragments, intricate decorative elements, and a dark Gothic interior, The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik represents an important Renaissance structure listed as a World Heritage Site. The cathedral dates back to 1298, though the first boulder was laid in 1402. Over a period of more than a century, this simple stone church gradually received statues of Adam and Eve, the ceiling was adorned with angelic figures, and the facade transformed into a lavish piece of art. Observe the frieze, engraved with 71 faces of men, women, and children. Walk inside to view its dark mystic spaces and powerful ornamentation. Impressive building, under renovation on the inside, but worth a look -- a unique spot that anchors this impressive town.

We climbed to top of the 56m bell tower and you get a brilliant 360 view of Zadar old town. 15kn per person. Very good value If you climb around the top of the hour you'll also get a great treat of hearing and feeling the bells close up and seeing the workings of the machinery. Lots of spiral staircases, watch you don't bang your head at a couple of places. Patience required as other visitors coming up and down but there are are a few places to wait.

Absolutely mesmerising building! It is the most important architectural monument of the Renaissance in the entire country. Since 2000, the cathedral has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Definitely MUST SEE in the City! Near by you can find plenty of nice restaurants and cafeterias. Try to imagine drinking your coffee with this incredible view!
