Create an itinerary including Ayia Napa Monastery
Once nestled in a dense forest and visited only by hunters, Ayia Napa Monastery features a church, a hiding place, and a well from the Byzantine and Venetian eras. The monastery you can see today was constructed in the 15th century, with certain areas built underground and cut into the rock. Unlike most churches and monasteries in Cyprus, this one has survived the Ottoman rule, and it underwent extensive repairs during the 20th century. At the south gate, look for an old sycamore tree--it is believed to beĀ more than 600 years old. Using our custom trip planner, Ayia Napa attractions like Ayia Napa Monastery can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Beautiful looking building in the Eastern part of Ayia Napa. Although it was closed for refurbishment when we visited April 2023, but you could peek inside through the gates. Looks very impressive.

  • The Monastery o was built in the form of a Medieval Castle around 1500 AD. From outside it looks quite well preserved. Unfortunately I did not have chance to discover inside as it is closed...

  • This is a lovely little place to visit just off the square. It is free to enter but if you are a history buff there is so much information on it. The aquaduct connects to it but at the moment both...

  • Historic place almost in the Center of Agia Napa. It is closed, but can be seen through the fence and from above. If you are in Agia Napa, it is worth a walk around the site.
  • the monastery is situated in the center of the city. It is an old and interesting archaeological vestige. I was impressed by the entrance tree (Ficus Sycomorus) that is very old I think it has a few hundred years !!!!
  • I find it astonishing that this ancient place has had Greek Orthodox monks in residence since at least the 14th Century. This being the earliest that historical references can be found. Considering the history of the island though, I suspect it has an older pedigree. Lots of interesting architecture to see in this peaceful retreat in the middle of party town. Worth a visit and a spot of peaceful reflection šŸ˜€
  • ... the place does give a calming, for some an eiree feel when visiting some of the abandoned rooms. the place is full of history to include miracles and love. nice temporary refuge from the hustle and bustle of this party town.
  • Such a shame but it's closed for renovations so not able to go inside for a look got a few photos inside and round the monastery.
