Create an itinerary including Bellapais Monastery
Ruins of the Gothic Bellapais Monastery adorn the hillside of Kyrenia Mountain, with its French ornamentation, Genoese and Venetian influences, and lush colorful gardens. Dating back to the 13th century, the building served as a monastery and living quarters of Kings Hugh the 3rd and Hugh the 4th. The site was neglected and mistreated for centuries until the 1900s, when a small portion of the monastery and its surroundings were restored. Today you can see evidence of centuries of destruction, preservation, and restoration, nestled in maintained gardens of palm trees, carob trees, and flowers. Due to its extraordinary acoustics, concerts are often held at the abbey. To visit Bellapais Monastery on your trip to Kyrenia, use our Kyrenia tour itinerary planning site.

  • Lovely morning spent here, parking and entrance fee practically for nothing. Stunning views, take your trainers and enjoy at drink in one of the bars with a view
  • What a fantastic view. Well worth the 15 liras (for adults). It is a small place, but there is plenty to explore, count on spending an hour or so there.
  • Amazing views. Great historic place full of memories. Nice neighborhood Be prepared to search for a parking slot but when you get at the edge you will be amazed by the beauty.
  • Great views of Kerynia. It does get busy. So be early to avoid crowds. Lovely village to walk around.
  • Beautiful old monastery. Lots of little restaurants around it, which is nice for a little refreshment. You pay 20 turkish Lira per person for access.
