Create an itinerary including Larnaka Salt Lake
If you discover chunks of salt emerging from the earth, you may be at Larnaka Salt Lake. This spot serves as a migration point for pink flamingos, and it's home to Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque. Here you'll find a crystal-clear lake reflecting an image of one of the holiest shrines of Ottoman Islam surrounded by palm trees and flamingos--a common image at the site. Stretching across 1,585 hectares (3,920 acres) of scrubland, the lake hosts over 80 species of birds. The lake used to provide vast amounts of salt to the locals. During the dry months now, the entire place turns into a mixture of gray dust and piles of crusted salt. • We did visit the Salt Lake while staying in Larnica. Definitely worth a visit. There were flamingos on the lake although quite a distance away but certainly worth seeing. Larnaka is very well geared.....  more

  • This place is so beautiful and peaceful. It's easy to park, free of charge and it has a big open space. You can observe flamingos very easily from there, but they are quite shy birds, they won't come too close to the shore when you are there. But if you could be qiret and wait for a while, they would slowly come closer. Definitely a great place to get closer to nature! I highly recommend this spot!
  • We were here at the end of August and the lake was dried up and it was like a swamp. But it was fascinating seeing this white lake like it was covered in snow.
  • The surroundings were clean. Idle for the sunset view. We had been here to see the Flamingos. Walking trails, benches, it well maintained.
  • The water already comes back and today we were already able to see some flamingos, they were in the middle of the lake and not super close. But they were there and we were able to here their sounds. It's so cool when they start flying. It is a really nice place to watch the flamingos and also other birds. The mot is a little bit slippy and also stinky, but this was not too bad. I had a really good time there 😊☀️
  • The Salt Lake in Larnaca is 30+ minutes walk from Larnaca's Finikoudes beach(tourist area). We had a good walk along the lake on our way to the historic Hala Sultan mosque and also stopped by the Salt Lake a few times for views across.
