Create an itinerary including Limassol Castle
Nestled right among upbeat cafes and restaurants, Limassol Castle stands tall, reminiscent of the days of the Byzantine Kingdom, Lusignan rulers, and King Richard the Lionheart. Believed to have been built over an early Christian basilica, the present-day edifice dates back to the year 1590. Burned and looted by the Genoese, the Egyptians, and the Venetians, and shaken by powerful earthquakes, the castle was finally rebuilt by the Ottomans and served as a prison until 1950. Today you can visit a medieval museum inside the castle, with exhibits depicting the economic, social, and cultural development of Cyprus from the 3rd to the 18th century. • I'm not sure why but we were waved in with no charge. I had visited many years ago and there is much more to see. Everything was clearly labelled and it was interesting. Well worth a visit.

  • Very nice part of history right in the middle of town. We stumbled on this and it was worth the entrance fee which was cheap. My kids enjoyed learning about the history of the castle and area. We’ll organized and laid out with tons of information.
  • Around this castle outside have many restaurants and cafe, it look not big from outlook , when I went enter inside , I found it has many antique/historic things can look. Good place , but the ticket is 4.5 Euro now!
  • It was a nice experience close to the pier and Limassol marina. There are fragments from different places you can see and a lovely view from the roof. The entrance fee is €4.50 which is very reasonable to maintain the castle. It is not recommended for people with a wheelchair due to the steep steps as there are levels.
  • Small fort but very reasonably priced entrance. Has lots to see and read about the history of this place. Well maintained and well setup. Located in a beautiful part of town with lots of restaurants around and small souvenir shops.
  • From the outside the castle seems very sober but the inside makes it worth a visit. Its rooms are used to display a collection of local medieval art, including a lot of carved tombstones, weapons, stones reliefs from churches, but also some islamic art. I regret not learning more on the history of Limassol there, also the display of the artworks is quite outdated and should give more informations on the art. On top of the castle, the terrace gives a nice view over the historic center and the sea.
