Byzantine Museum, Nicosia

The museum is a wonderful one. I recommend the visit as it has an incredible collection of orthodox church iconography. The only negative there are no discounts for students or over 65. It is the first museum that I visit that doesn't give discounts.

Worth seeing the Byzantine Museum. I especially recommended for connoisseurs of Orthodox art. You visit may takes around 2 hours because there is a lot to see there. First of all, there is a splendid collection of beautiful and unique Orthodox icons. Truly immense iconostasis. Secondly, you'll see charming Byzantine mosaics there. The Byzantine Museum has many other artifacts and items related to the liturgy of Orthodoxy. You shouldn't take pictures inside. I was a visitor in this splendid Museum in November 2018.

The collections in this museum are WONDERFUL. There are so many beautiful icons! The best parts are the reconstructed dome-mosaics and frescoes though, absolutely stunning. Also impressive displays on how these were stolen/illegally trafficked from the northern part of Cyprus. However - the museum itself is a bit old-fashioned. Interpretation options are not great and it is unclear where to go/what parts to see, etc.

If you are interested in churches and religious paintings, this is a place for you. A nice collection of Byzantine art. Easy to reach, present on all Maps, in a quiet neighbourhood. Around 45 minutes to visit and reach all the rooms.
