Lake Assal, Djibouti

Impressive and awe-inspiring salt lake, requiring some effort to get there, with minimal infrastructure at the site itself. In case you want to swim in the lake, bring clean water to shower afterwards.

Not too difficult to get to, but about 1.5 to 2h out side of the capitol in the desert, takes long only because of the slow traffic caused by big trucks chugging up the steep roads. There are 2 or 3 stops worth looking at along the way of canyons and mountains, the gypsies at these stops will want water in addition to their high prices. The lake itself is a beautiful site to see, something you need to do if you're already in the country.

Very interesting salt lake on a very remote location. Basically there is nothing around. It can get very windy and very hot. So be prepared, bring an ice box full of water, drinks and food. Prefer to go there early in the morning to avoid the heat. Enjoy the view and water, it is magical.

if you like taking good photos this is the place, caution there is a danger sign board before you enter so take a local guy with you. its a salt lake at -150m elevaton from sealevel. and its very very hot

Lac Assal is one of the most wonderful places I ever saw. Someone needs to film a scifi movie here, it's like the landscape of another planet. Bought a goat's skull encrusted in salt to put on the wall.
